Printer heat pressing a transfer onto a T-shirt

What is DTF?

Printed onto film, pressed to last.

DTF stands for direct to film. Your artwork is printed in full colour onto a special film, coated with an adhesive powder and cured. The finished transfer is then heat pressed onto the garment, bonding the print to the fabric.

Because the design is printed on film rather than on the garment itself, DTF works on cotton, polyester and blends, on light and dark colours alike. Gradients, photos and fine detail come through sharply, and the print stays flexible so it moves with the fabric.

It's our go-to for tees, hoodies, polos, hi-vis and workwear, whether you need a handful of shirts or a whole team. For a premium stitched finish on polos and caps, see embroidery, and for all-over sports kits, see dye sublimation.

Questions

DTF printing questions, answered.

More on artwork, garments and delivery in our FAQ, or ask us directly.

What is DTF printing?

DTF (direct to film) printing prints your design onto a special film, which is then heat pressed onto the garment. It gives full-colour prints with sharp detail and no screens to set up.

What fabrics can you DTF print on?

Cotton, polyester and most blends, in light and dark colours. That makes it ideal for mixed orders of tees, polos, hoodies and hi-vis.

Is DTF good for small orders?

Yes. With no screens to set up, DTF suits small orders and one-off pieces as well as larger runs. Tell us your quantity and we'll quote.

DTF printing or embroidery?

DTF suits full-colour designs on tees, hoodies and workwear. Embroidery gives polos, caps and jackets a premium, stitched finish that lasts. We'll recommend the best fit when we quote.

How do I look after a DTF print?

Wash inside out in cold or warm water and avoid ironing directly on the print. That keeps the colours bright and the print flexible.
